A successful trip for UK asparagus growers
15-06-2015 We held the third 'UK Asparagus Growers Tour' on 11, 12, and 13 March, and it was a great success. A number of asparagus growers from the UK were invited to visit Beeren Plantproducts. In addition to watching the lifting process, an explanation was also given of the sorting process and our quality requirements, including the Select Plant quality mark. A presentation was also given on new varieties and opportunities for green asparagus in the UK.
After the visit to Beeren Plantproducts, we also visited various other companies active within the asparagus sector. Our hosts included Christiaens Agrosystems, Limgroup, and Engels Machines.
The programme also included a visit to growers' premises. At the premises of Hans and Rick van Rijswijck, we witnessed the asparagus sorting process and saw the crops in the 'wind tunnels'. In Belgium, our hosts were the Nooyens family. At their premises, the harvest of the asparagus in their heated greenhouse was well underway. All in all, they were a successful few days, with a lot of discussions and exchanges of knowledge and information.
